Biography
Oliver Steer BA Hons (Architecture) Member, British Interior Design Association
Graduating from Liverpool University with a BA Honours Degree in Architecture, Oliver Steer took a position as Assistant Designer and then Senior Designer for Mark Gillette, one of the county’s leading interior designers.
In late 2005, Oliver started his own company, channelling his background and passion to offer a wide range of services including interior architecture, interior design, project coordination and furniture design.
Oliver believes the elements of design range from the visual (colour, lighting, form) to the tactile (surface, shape, texture) to the auditory (noise, echo). Oliver has an aesthetic, practical and technical appreciation for these elements and understands how people respond to them and how in turn, they respond to each other.
Oliver was recently made a member of the British Interior Design Association. ‘The British Interior Design Association (BIDA) was formed in 2002 through the amalgamation of the highly respected Interior Decorators & Designers Association (originally set up in 1966) and the globally recognised International Interior Design Association (UK Chapter). This newly emerged organisation continues to promote high standards throughout the profession, encouraging and fostering proven design ability. The BIDA is a Member of IFI, the International Federation of Interior Architects & Designers’. ‘The Association defines Interior Designers as persons qualified by education, experience and recognised skills who identify, research and creatively solve problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment. They perform services relevant to interior spaces including programming, design analysis, space planning, aesthetics, and inspection of work on site, using specialised knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building regulations, equipment, materials and furnishings, and prepare drawings and documents relative to the design of the interior space (Courtesy of the BIDA website www.bida.org)
Oliver continues to draw inspiration from those interior designers who he most admires: Nina Campbell, John Stefanidis, Scott Saunders, Joanna Wood and Ernest de la Torre.
